From the Workshop to the Racetrack: Our Motorsport Story

We’re proud to share that our owner, Phil Evans, has been featured by MotorsportInsight in an article about the personal side of motorsport sponsorship.

How it started

Phil joined B I Appleton as a 17-year-old apprentice in 2003 and took over the business in 2022. A chance meeting at an Oulton Park track day in 2025 introduced him to Will Orton, British GT4 Silver champion and AMR Academy driver. One conversation led to another, and before long our name was on the side of a race car.

We’ve since also supported Hannah Chapman, helping her complete the final rounds of the Porsche Sprint Challenge, where she went on to win her class’s amateur championship.

Why we do it

For us, sponsorship isn’t just about seeing our logo on a car. It’s about backing talented drivers who don’t have deep pockets, and giving our apprentices the chance to experience a race weekend they might never otherwise see. Racing at this level is expensive, so every bit of support makes a real difference.

What’s next

We have plans to build a Mazda MX-5 race car to enter selected events as a guest team, giving more drivers a chance to compete. We’re also aiming to race a Citroën C1 in 2027, with our sights set on the Silverstone 24-hour race.
